Reflection:
This is an image of an assignment that my English III students complete each year. I feel that this assignment is a good representation of my competency in Standard 2. This reflective essay assignment is paired with my unit over Civil War Era Literature. We begin writing this essay right after we finish reading a portion of Frederick Douglass' My Bondage and My Freedom, an author/ historical figure that the students have learned about it their Social Studies courses. During their reading, the students are to analyze Douglass' purpose for writing this piece, and are then asked to write a piece of their own that exercises similar skills (including only events that have a purpose).
I feel that this artifact demonstrates not only my capability to connect my content to other courses, but also my capability to make the content relevant to students' lives, which makes it the concepts we discuss more accessible to every learner. In addition, this artifact demonstrates a use of instructional strategies that are appropriate for English/ Language Arts.
